Kim Mee-Ryoung

Abstract
This study examines the effect of babyboomers' volunteering motivational function and functional benefit on social integration using functional approach. The sample size of this study is 280 babyboomers who volunteered in Seoul and Kyungki Province. Depending on the high and low mean of functional motivation, each functional motivation group was divided by two. Six functional benefits were then compared by both high and low motivation group. For testing the effect of volunteering on social integration, hierarchical multiple regressions were used. According to the research results, for sub-functional motivation, social and understanding motivation were significant factors affecting social integration and for sub-functional benefit, social and value functional benefit were significant factors. The results indicate that depending on the motivational function and functional benefit, the effect of volunteering on social integration is different as functional approach of volunteering explains. Thus, the research results support functional approach of volunteering. Therefore for vitalizing babyboomers' volunteering, using functional approach for recruiting volunteers is desirable.
